Elisabeth Sparkle: There was a little substance abuse. .Special thanks in the closing credits to the many extras in the theater scene, which was covered in blood.. Pump It Up Written by Michael Hall, Leonardo Stella Performed by Earl Gregory Produced by Julien Deguines. The Substance The Substance is about Elizabeth Sparkle, a celebrity in her 50s who is about to be washed out of the industry. An accident leads her to a substance that can make a newer younger version of her.
The plot of The Substance is crazy, fresh and unique
However, there is a catch: both versions of Elizabeth - the seasoned star and her youthful counterpart - can exist, but only one can be active at a time, alternating on a weekly basis. At its core, The Substance delves into the themes of aging. As someone who thinks about this aspect of life often, I find it a fascinating and nuanced exploration. The crazy story of The Substance is elevated by its striking visuals. The images here are raw and obscene and definitely not for the squeamish.
The performances here are nothing short of great
Camera angles range from nervous sequences to intimate ones, all enhanced by a stunning aural experience that draws the viewer deeper into the unsettling world of the film. Demi Moore plays The Substance and is absolutely perfect in her portrayal. For starters, Demi is a real bombshell, and watching the journey she goes through in this movie makes you wonder, if a character with the build and beauty that Demi possesses is going through this, what hope do the rest of us have? Margaret Qualley answers Demi breath by breath, step by step. Dennis Quaid portrayed the repulsive, horrible boss with almost disturbing ease.
All in all, The Substance is a thrill ride and a glorious entry into the body of horror8/10
For all the praise that The Substance will garner, from the performance to the make-up and cinematography, the ending is a disappointment. Metaphorically, it's moving and meaningful, but if we judge the sequences based on the literal events that take place, the walls begin to crumble.
